Embarking on the Homeschooling Adventure: A Fellow Egyptian Mom's Welcome!

High school graduation meant leaving the US behind for me. I landed in Egypt for college, a place that quickly captured my heart. Here, I built a life, met my husband, and eventually started my teaching career – high school English at a prestigious international school in Egypt.

Teaching was supposed to be a dream come true. Sharing the magic of language with young minds – what wasn't to love? But the reality felt like a tightly bound textbook. The curriculum, designed for a global audience, often lacked the local flavor I craved. It felt disconnected from the vibrant culture that surrounded us.

Then, my own little learners arrived. With them came a burning desire to create an educational experience that went beyond textbooks. I envisioned a space where my children could explore the world around them, a place where the American spirit of curiosity and innovation could blend seamlessly with the rich tapestry of Egyptian history and culture.

So, after much deliberation, I hung up my teacher's hat and embarked on a new adventure – homeschooling. My classroom became our cozy Cairo kitchen, the bustling souks transformed into living math lessons, and ancient ruins became our most impactful history textbooks.

Of course, it wasn't always sunshine and pyramids. There were days of meltdowns, overflowing laundry baskets, and the ever-present "mom guilt." But then, there were those magical moments: the shared laughter as we tackled a challenging science project together, or the spark of pride in my son's eyes as he presented a detailed presentation on the pharaohs, brimming with facts and his own creative interpretations.

This blog is my way of sharing our homeschooling journey – the triumphs and the tantrums, the resources we've found helpful, and the lessons we're learning along the way. Here, I hope to connect with fellow Egyptian parents who, like me, yearn for a curriculum that fosters creativity and embraces the unique cultural heritage of our country. Whether you're just starting your homeschooling adventure or are a seasoned veteran, welcome!

Together, let's create a space where we can share experiences, celebrate the joys of learning, and navigate the challenges of raising curious, compassionate, and independent thinkers – all within the vibrant heart of Egypt. After all, education shouldn't be confined by walls, but should embrace the world around us, one adventure at a time.
